Who is Biden?
Joseph Robinette Biden Jr., also known as Joe Biden, is the current President of the United States of America. Born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden has been a prominent figure in American politics for over five decades.
Biden's political career began in 1972 when he was elected as a senator from Delaware. He went on to serve as senator for 36 years and became a prominent voice in the Senate, particularly on issues related to foreign policy, civil rights, and criminal justice reform.
In 2008, Biden was selected by Barack Obama to be his running mate in the presidential election. The Obama-Biden ticket won the election and served two terms, with Biden serving as Vice President from 2009 to 2017. During his time as Vice President, Biden played an instrumental role in passing the Affordable Care Act and shaping US foreign policy.
In the 2020 presidential election, Biden ran against incumbent President Donald Trump and won with over 80 million votes, the highest number of votes ever received by a presidential candidate in US history.
As President, Biden has focused on several key issues, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and immigration reform. One of his first actions as President was to launch a national strategy to combat the pandemic, which included measures such as mask mandates, vaccine distribution, and economic relief for individuals and businesses affected by the pandemic.
In April 2021, Biden announced an ambitious plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and tackle climate change. The plan called the American Jobs Plan, aims to create new jobs in the clean energy sector and invest in infrastructure to reduce carbon emissions.
In recent news, Biden has faced criticism for his handling of the crisis in Afghanistan. Following the withdrawal of US troops from the country, the Taliban seized control of the country, leading to chaos and uncertainty. Biden has defended his decision to withdraw troops and has vowed to continue working to evacuate Americans and Afghan allies from the country.
Despite the challenges he has faced in his first year as President, Biden remains committed to his vision for a better America. He has emphasized the importance of unity and working together to address the country's most pressing issues and has called on all Americans to come together to build a brighter future.
