As the chairman of the boards of governors of all CNI schools under the Calcutta Diocese, he emphasized the need for vigilance regarding the excessive use of mobile phones, given the potential dangers they pose. While CNI schools encourage the use of the latest technologies, they also prioritize maintaining a balanced approach to ensure that this book does not turn into a curse.

Prominent CNI schools in Kolkata, such as La Martiniere, St James', Pratt Memorial, St John's Diocesan, and St Thomas', have always been mindful of mobile phone use restrictions. However, Reverend Canning acknowledges the need for increased vigilance in order to prevent students from being constantly engrossed in their devices.

During the lockdown when students had to stay isolated at home and attend online classes, their reliance on technology grew exponentially. With the reopening of schools post-pandemic, numerous campuses across the country noticed a surge in mobile phone addiction among students. Consequently, school authorities have implemented various measures to address this issue.

Reverend Canning emphasizes that the restrictions on mobile phone use at CNI schools existed even before the pandemic. However, schools are now striving to be more vigilant, encouraging students to break away from constant scrolling and focus on their studies.

The president of the Reach Out Star Foundation, Shaheryaar Ali Mirza, explains that the organization is dedicated to supporting needy and meritorious students. The Reach Out Star Award Ceremony 2023 was organized to celebrate the remarkable achievements of top-performing students in Class XII board exams from various city schools. Approximately 30 students were felicitated for their hard work and perseverance, with the foundation expressing its commitment to honoring more students in the future.
