Age-wise class chart according to NEP
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has brought about significant changes in the Indian education system, one of which is the age-wise class chart. The age-wise class chart is a new system that has been introduced to ensure that students are placed in the appropriate class according to their age.
The age-wise class chart under the NEP 2020 is as follows:
- Foundational Stage:
This stage will consist of two sub-stages - the first sub-stage will cover children from 3 to 6 years of age, while the second sub-stage will cover children from 6 to 8 years of age. In this stage, the focus will be on play-based and activity-based learning.
- Preparatory Stage:
This stage will cover children from 8 to 11 years of age. At this stage, students will be introduced to subject-specific concepts, along with a focus on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Middle Stage:
This stage will cover students from 11 to 14 years of age. Students will be introduced to more complex subject-specific concepts and will be encouraged to pursue their interests.
- Secondary Stage:
This stage will cover students from 14 to 18 years of age. The focus at this stage will be on developing life skills, and vocational skills, and preparing students for higher education.
The age-wise class chart has been introduced to ensure that students are placed in classes according to their age, rather than their academic performance. This system will help reduce the burden on students who may be struggling academically and provide a more holistic approach to education.
The NEP 2020 has also introduced a new assessment system that will be based on a continuous and comprehensive evaluation system. This system will allow teachers to assess students based on their overall performance and progress, rather than just their academic performance.
